Day 3 – Taking a Break – 357 miles

This morning was rough.

Yesterday we were meant to camp at Angel Lake near Wells, Nevada, but none of us liked the campground, so after a couple hours break of eating, fishing, and playing in the lake we headed further north.

We should have stayed at the campsite near Angel Lake though instead of pushing on and driving to Mountain Home.

I didn’t get near enough sleep and I was not a fun person today. We didn’t do much but hang out around the campsite and do school work. That’s right, this roadschooling family is back to school already. Starting now means a longer break at Christmas and it means we can incorporate the places we’re visiting into our curriculum.

But back to our travels. The next several nights we’ll be staying at unimproved campgrounds so we took today to relax, play at the playground, do a bit of grocery shopping, and of course shower and laundry.

I love how economical it is staying at some of the .gov campgrounds. They’re usually around $10-15 a night, sometimes a bit more or less, but it means there’s no amenities and usually only vault toilets.

For the same price, .mil campgrounds on the other had have full amenities plus some extras. Mountain Home AFB not only had washer/dryers but they were also free!

So now we’re all going to bed smelling  fresh and clean and tomorrow we’re heading out on the road for Hell’s Canyon the deepest gorge in North America.
