Sittin’ on the Side of the Road

Again.

It overheated again.

Ah-gain.

Don’t worry though I was fully prepared with a jug of coolant and water just in case. My patience was in short supply though, especially when it started raining. Not sure if you remember, but our truck leaks water when it rains – all over my foot and when it rains especially hard it leaks in at the ceiling and drips on my head.

So I just gave up on making good time to Niagara Falls and we went to Quaker Steak and Lube to get our grub on. If I was going to have to drive 55mph on the interstate (aka motorway) for the next couple hundred miles, I wanted to do so with some yummy food in my tummy.

Quaker Steak is one of my favorite places to get wings. I love chicken wings. Love, love, love ‘em. After the last several years in UK (where the only place I found good wings was in an American style throwback restaurant in North Wales), I was in need of some finger lickin’ crispy chicken and I was not disappointed.

The food was delicious and my chicken wing craving is now curbed for the moment. Plus the kids were thrilled to sit underneath a real car to eat. That’s right my friends, if you’ve never been to or heard of a Quaker Steak and Lube – it is an automotive themed restaurant and there is every possibility you will be seated at a table where a car or motorcycle is somehow suspended in the air above your head while you eat. Living on the wild side, I know.

After filling up on some deliciousness, we finally made it to Niagara Falls about 8pm. It was so late and finding a place to boondock in the dark is not fun, so we just grabbed a hotel. One with a pool of course because everyone wanted to swim meaning no one was willing to go to bed.

Ugh.

It’s now past my bed time and after figuring out our moves for the next day (that’s right, my planner self is taking a hiatus and I’m just taking it one day at a time now), I also now have to figure out where to take this broken truck of ours and hope they have the know-how to diagnose the problem and the parts to fix it without leaving us stranded for too long.
