It’s here and we’re leaving!

Our Defender has finally made it from England to America! Now to just wait for it to clear customs, ugh, and then we can pick it up and be on our Great American Adventure! Still sticking with that name, I think.

This week has been exponentially better than the last. The rain let up, which has been both good and bad. It’s now just hot and humid all the time with no reprieve, but on the bright side though, some of the stagnant water throughout the campground has been drying up and there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of mosquitoes. Hooray!

We haven’t spent much time at our campsite this week, however. We started a new routine involving the local area, which the children have loved. After breakfast each morning, we’ve gone to the local library. Can anyone say air conditioning? We’ve done school there (we homeschool year round to allow us more flexibility in taking breaks), played some card games, read some books, and made use of the free wifi.

After spending a few hours at the library, we’ve then jaunted off to one of the many parks along Lake Livingston for lunch and stayed until dinner. We’ve visited Wolf Creek Park, Lake Livingston State Park, and Hughes Beach. Keep an eye out for my review of these places. One day we skipped the lake and went to a movie instead. It has been a much more enjoyable week had by all.

This weekend I’ve got a day out planned to a nearby bowling alley/arcade with a visit to a fro-yo shop for dessert. Yum! I’m sure my British friends are wondering, “What is fro-yo?” It’s self-serve frozen yogurt. You grab a cup, fill it with any combination of frozen yogurt flavors, top it with some or all of the myriad of toppings (there’s usually at least twenty different toppings), weigh it and enjoy. Sounds like a great way to end our stay here at Double Lake Recreation Area, doesn’t it?
