Stake the Tent!

Not sure how many times I’ve forgot this trip. I think I’m up to at least half a dozen now. And every single time as resulted in less sleep for me.

I did it again. I didn’t tie down the guy line, I couldn’t stake it because we were at a rest stop parking area and there’s only pavement, but I should have at least tied it down to the ladder. But, I didn’t and woke up at 3:51 am to the tent awning making all sorts of a ruckus while the wind blew it up and down.

Guess it was a good thing though, as once I was down on the ground to secure it, I noted a long trail of coolant leading from under the truck out to the parking lot. Blimey! I just can’t catch a break with this truck. This early in the morning and I’m definitely hating our only somewhat reliable mode of transportation.

I thought about fixing it, but it’s now 4am and my pillow is calling my name. In a few more hours the littles will be up and I’ll need to be on my A-game. Guess it will have to wait until daybreak. For now, I shoved Little One’s porta potty underneath. It was clean and it can catch any more coolant that leaks out. I need some more sleep.

(Insert a few hours of sleep)

Woke up this morning, went to open the rear door and the door latch just about fell off. Aaaaaaaa!

Got to looking at the latch to realize, it was installed with bolts – it’s not supposed to be. It’s supposed to be installed with stud plates. The bolts were just about too small that they went through the bolt holes.

Being the resourceful lady I am, I rummaged around until I found a bottle cap. I used a screw driver to pierce a hole through the middle and then was able to use it as a makeshift washer. I reckon at some point in time I’ll have to fix this correctly, but for now it will have to do.
It will at least make do until we make to the maple syrup farm where we’re going to taste some maple syrup and it’s promising to be scrummy.
