One boy’s worst day is a young girl’s favorite

A few years ago, Miss Drama read the books Misty of Chincoteague and Sea Star: Orphan of Chincoteague. Ever since then horses have been one of her favorite animalsy. And since we were only a couple of hours away and it wasn’t totally out of the way, we decided to make a stop on our way towards D.C. at Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.

The islands are most well-known for their pony round-up, swim, and auction held every July. This year we missed it by just a couple weeks. We still enjoyed seeing the ponies, however. Well, most of us did. For #2 it was ‘the worst day of his life.’ I’m not sure why other than the fact it was something his sister really wanted to do.

We spotted the ponies as we crossed Assateague Channel over to Assateague Island. They were quite far away, but Miss Drama was still thrilled she got to see them even from a distance. We spent most of the day on Assateague at its fabulous beach enjoying the sun and surf. The two eldest children took turns playing with Little One in the sand to give me a bit of one-on-one time with the other which contributed to #2’s ‘worst day of his life.’ Then Little One fell asleep in our beach tent and napped for awhile giving us all time to play in the water together.

Leaving the islands we got to enjoy a spectacular sunset.
It was a great way to end the day I thought, but as we were parked next to the bay watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon, #2 reminded me, “This was the worst day of my life.”

Well kid, if this was the worst day of your life the rest ought to be pretty spectacular.
