A Winning Evening

One of my hopes for our Great American Adventure is for my children to grow closer together. Family is forever whereas most friends come and go especially with being a military family.

Tonight after supper, I watched my hope come to life. There’s a massive stage in a field next to where we camped and all the children went over there to play after eating. They played for well over 30 minutes without me having to mediate or break up a fight or argument. It was one of the most amazing feelings to see all my children – 10, 8, 5, and 1.5 – playing together and talking to one another without any arguing or fighting. It was one of those moments as a parent that you feel ultimate success.
Little one quit the party first as it was getting close to bed time and she’d had enough. The rest followed suit shortly after and we spent the evening in our tent reading some American History and the Hardy Boys. It was an epic night and I hope we can cultivate more like it as we continue on our epic road trip across the country.
