It’s hot, unbearably hot. We’ve spent the last month camping in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and none of those places have been as horribly hot and humid as Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Know what else? There’s nowhere to swim! We’ve gone swimming almost everyday for the last 2 months and now when we need it most, there’s nowhere to swim. All the local swimming pools are closed except for lap swim (open to active duty military only) and swimming lessons. The lake we’re camped next to right now, closed. Closed! Who closes a lake? It’s only open Saturdays and Sundays. Why have a lake with a beautiful beach if you’re going to close it the majority of the year? It’s absolutely ludicrous!
It is so oppressingly hot the children decided to make the most out of a quick rain shower this afternoon. Know what’s crazy though? The pavement had absorbed so much heat from the morning sun, the children complained about the rain water being too hot!
Thankfully, the lovely friends we met up with today invited us over for dinner and a swim in their community pool. Even though it was warmer than bath water it was still a reprieve from the heat. We had hoped to stay in the area longer, but I just can’t cope with this heat! Onward to the coast where it will hopefully be cooler.
Love and miss you Bailey family. Thanks for opening your home up to our crazy bunch. Hope to see you again soon!
