What are Inzpired Travels?

My life changed when my first child was born. I know that sounds a bit cliche, because well life certainly can’t continue on as it was when you’re suddenly presented with this tiny human who is now dependent upon you for everything (a tiny human who will loudly let you know when you are not meeting her needs). The change for me though was deeper than just changing my routine and being cognizant of the fact a tiny person just invaded my home.

I became inspired by this little one to be better and do better than my own parents had done for me. I became inspired to explore and research and figure out how to become the best parent I could be. I became inspired to share and explore the world with her. Then, as our family grew, so did my inspiration.

I graduated from taking little day and weekend trips to week long trips. Then for my birthday last year, I attempted our greatest travel yet – to drive from Cambridge, England to Cork, Ireland and back over the course of two weeks. Just about everything that could go wrong on that trip did go wrong, but that’s for another post or it might even take two. However, I learned a lot about myself during that trip. I learned I don’t do well when things are out of my control. I learned my children really tend to feed off my bad attitude and develop horrible attitudes themselves. I learned we could still have fun even when nothing goes to plan (I tend to over plan sometimes). Most of all, I learned I could do it. I could travel with four children on my own across countries, across seas, through turmoil and strife and still come out the other side better for it.

So, I’m doing it again. Go big or go home, right?

This time, we’re taking months and traveling across the U.S. of A. What better way to learn about the great country that is the United States of America than to see it and experience it first hand?

Spoiler alert: there is probably a better way than the way I have chosen because things have not gone to plan, things have gone wrong, friends have let us down, and we’ve been in the States for nearly two months and we still don’t even have our car.

But, I have drawn on the vast experience gained during our trip to Ireland last summer, and things are going smoothly for the most part. Although, tent camping in Texas, in June, during one of their rainiest seasons ever should never be put on anyone’s to-do list. Ever.

So, if you want to laugh, cry, commiserate, and maybe even be encouraged by the joys and struggles of traveling with children, you’re in the right place. Sit down, grab a drink, and join me on my journey.

And if you’re wondering why inspired is spelled Inzpired – it’s a tribute to my eldest who inspired me then and still does today. Love you Z.
